CRUISE TIPS CONTINUED
• All prices are normally quoted without the port taxes and gratuities, keep that in mind when you want to compare prices.
• It is lovely to have an outside stateroom/cabin (sea view), but depending on your zest for life you will not spend much time there and an inside stateroom/cabin is more affordable and very comfortable (except when you may be very claustrophobic).
• Depending on the time of year and the weather it is a waste to have a balcony and you can never use it due to the cold.
• The shore excursions are often very expensive and not always good value for money. If you are prepared for a little bid of adventure venture into the city and or area you are visiting on your own. There is sufficient information about the different places they visit and a good taxi driver will be able to assist you as well.
• Remember you are not allowed to take any liquor on board.
• Make sure you have all the necessary visas as there are no “ship visas” available.
• People seldom get seasick on the big ships as they all have stabilizers to cancel any possible “roll” of the ship should the seas get a bit rough. If you however are prone to seasickness make sure you take the necessary precautions.
• Always plan to be at your destination a day before as no ship waits for you and often flights get delayed.
• Plan a post Cruise tour so that you can experience the area you visited more thoroughly as the city stops only give you a taste of what is available.
• For a sailing to Alaska a post Cruise is a “must” and here we would like to suggest Princess Cruises, as they have their own beautiful and exciting train as well as the most exquisite lodges you can visit.
• Always familiarise yourself with the ship, its layout, the programs, the free facilities etc. There is so much to do on a ship that you will find at the end of the journey you have not even covered all the options. This is also applicable to the entertainment.
• Make a copy of all your documents as well as your passport and keep the copy with you at all times when you are on shore as you never know what can happen. If you miss the ship you have a form of identification to assist you in getting to the next harbour to catch the ship again.
• Always pack half your clothes and half your partners clothes in a suitcase. This way you both will have something to wear should one suitcase get delayed or lost.
• The big question with the ladies is “what do I pack?” Follow the link and see what the “experts” say about the topic. Read further.....
